Love and Marriage

I don’t have amazingly profound thoughts on marriage; no stunning insight. But I’ve been asked a few times – the most recent one having asked me several times. Now I’m not saying I’m not charmed at all, and or that it isn’t worth the fall. Sometimes, I’ve even felt like doing the asking.

But marriage isn’t just a contract between two people – it’s an arrangement with everyone else. With family, the agreement to start my own and so pay more attention to it to the near exclusion of everything else; with old friends, the agreement to be with the one I married more than I am with them; with old loves and old bed mates, the agreement never to say their names again, or to go out of my way to see them.

And because I see marriage this way, it’s not something I can jump into easily. I might say that I want to get married, or that I’ll marry you eventually, but be patient. Yes doesn’t mean right away. And not right away doesn’t mean I don’t love you.

Malaysia’s Lina Joy loses Islam conversion case

By Jalil Hamid and Syed Azman | May 30, 2007

PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia (Reuters) – Malaysia’s best known Christian convert, Lina Joy, lost a six-year battle on Wednesday to have the word “Islam” removed from her identity card, after the country’s highest court rejected the change.

    ———————-
Because Lina Joy is unable to remove “Islam” on her identity card, then Lina Joy ( who has converted to Christianity) is prevented to marry her (Christian) fiancee.

wikipedia entry states: Marriage between Muslim women and non-Muslim men is forbidden under Malaysian law and under the Shariah/Islamic Jurisprudence; the non-Muslim man is required to convert to Islam under Malaysian law; Under Shariah, Muslim men are only allowed to marry “people of the book,” those who believe in One God.

Maceda sez Erap consulted Narvasa and others, and they told him that the 1987 Consti prohibits only the INCUMBENT prez from re-election. Former prezzies, by their definition, face no such prohibition. But in the same breath, Maceda also sez that they know an Erap candidacy will be the subject of a disqual case – but […]

I still think the Pangandaman’s shouldn’t have retaliated even if dela Paz threw the first punch. But is anyone really surprised at the escalation in the story-telling on both sides? BTW, I think we can dispense with the age angle nao.

Unless you’re spoiling for a fight, assume that the writer has some basis for what she writes. Don’t make like a lawyer and ask retarded questions in an attempt to lay the foundation for whatever point you’re trying to make.
