For the longest time, I believed that the BMW logo was derived from the image of an airplane propeller zipping around against the blue sky – a nod to BMW’s origins as an airplane motor maker.

Not quite right, as it turns out.
The BMW logo actually harkens back to its Bavarian origins by mimicking the Bavarian flag’s blue and white pattern. Makes sense, because after all, BMW stands for Bavarian Motor Works.

Didn’t know that before, but I know it now.
