JDV’s spilled the beans, apparently, and it pins the blame for the NBN-ZTE deal squarely on …. who?
Abalos’ role, as described by JDV, was as spokesman of sorts for the ZTE people. He talked up a storm, it seems, and basically pitched the idea of ZTE as primary supplier.
GMA, on the other hand, is described as having been fairly vocal about her insistence that the broadband project be undertaken as a BOT project, and – based solely on the Inquirer report – never actually backed down from it.
Mike Arroyo seemed to have played the role of GMA’s mouthpiece, if JDV is to be believed. Initially echoing GMA’s preference for BOT, he is later said to have suggested the project loan with a government guarantee scheme. The insinuation being that his suggestion was an indication that the President had changed her mind.
Well well. Tell us something we don’t already know.
As far as bombshells go, this was a certifiable dud. Certainly didn’t reveal anything new, nor even added any sort of nuance to the story that’s been told over and over and over by everyone and his dog. JDV’s recollection of these events merely invites the reader to make the connections for himself – something which we’re all pretty good at; a strategy guaranteed to generate the most salacious conclusions possible.
